According to Sarita Pinmanee, a researcher from the Highland Research and Development Institute (Public Organization), cannabinoids such as CBD (Cannabidiol) and THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) are found in the genus Cannabis, Marijuana, and Hemp. CBD and THC are abundant in the inflorescences and are extracted from them. CBD is not classified as a drug and does not affect the nervous system or cause intoxication. It has several medical benefits, such as relieving stress, protecting nerve cells, anti-seizure, analgesic, anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, and antipsychotic effects. CBD does not cause resistance or addiction and can be used in various ways, including as herbal products, medicines, and food. On the other hand, THC is classified as a Class 1 drug and is psychoactive, causing euphoria, relaxation, sleepiness, increased appetite, anti-pain, anti-vomiting, and muscle relaxation. THC can be addictive. In Thailand, CBD extracts containing no more than 0.2% THC are not classified as drugs and can be used in various fields, including medical, research, making products such as medicines, food, herbs, and cosmetics. However, the extract must be obtained from hemp or cannabis produced locally, and CBD is also classified as a narcotic. Therefore, those who want to use CBD need to grow hemp or cannabis themselves in Thailand.
